Tallinn has been living in an active post-industrial urban situation for years now – factories and cargo harbour activities are moving out, old industrial facilities are renovated and turned into hip and up-to-market loft apartments, commercial premises or clubs. Tallinn inherited from the Soviet period several industrial complexes just in the middle of the city. The picturesque Rotermann quarter situated just between the city centre and the passenger harbour is one of those with the most ambitious character. The quarter derives its name from Christian Abraham Rotermann, the founder of Rotermanni Factories Ltd in the 19th century.
